Netflix Earnings Preview: Bullish Wall Street Expects Progress on Password-Sharing Crackdown, Ad Tier

Overall, Netflix’s global subscribers total was 232.5 million at the end of its first quarter of 2023. Netflix introduced paid sharing more broadly in the second quarter. We continue to believe paid sharing will drive 5 percent-plus uplift to revenue. Netflix eliminated its basic ad-free tier in Canada (and de-emphasized in the U.S.), which we estimate could provide a 10 percent uplift to average revenue per user over time and should help scale the ad base faster than prior expectations. (hollywoodreporter.com: 7/17/2023)

Amazon Nears $13 Billion in Prime Day Sales

Amazon grew worldwide sales 6.7% to $12.9 billion during the two-day summer sale it created nearly a decade ago. In the U.S., ecommerce sales grew 6.1% during the same period. Amazon is No. 3 in Digital Commerce 360’s new 2023 Global Online Marketplaces Report. That’s up 6.7% year over year from the same shopping spree in 2022, which ran July 12 and 13.
